Georgiana Michael who lived in Merry Mountain Village donated a 500 gallon-pumper, equipped with a high-pressure pump, four wheel drive and dual rear wheels fire truck to the Merry Mountain Village Fire Department Committee, this was a perfect fit for the small community of Clipper Mills, however due to freezing weather the truck would require being housed.
and with a parcel donation from Rollen Waterson (secretary-treasurer of the Fire Department Committee). Sand and gravel were also donated by Siller Brothers (a local Logging Outfit), enough for 26 yards of concrete which was enough for the foundatiion. It took over 50 volunteers a little more than 4 hours to lay that much cement. The newly formed Clipper Mills Fire department was scheduled to be up and functioning in 6 weeks.
(training provided by the Forestry Station in Challenge). Temporary officers of the department where in place until completion of the organization included President Harold Couch and Vice President Alvin Bell. The Fire Department was to serve from Woodleaf up to Travis Saddle (estimated to be around the area of Soper Wheeler shop) with Merry Mountain Village being right in the center.
CMVFD (Clipper Mills Volunteer Fire Department) and CDF (California Department of Forestry), the volunteers going out on incidents were paid and PPE (Personal Protection Equipment) was donated.

The department thrived and through its Auxiliary was successful in fundraising for the department, until approximately sometime in the late 80's - 90's, when due to lack of volunteers, Foothill Volunteer Fire Department formed an agreement with Butte County Fire to create a Foothill Fire Station 2 at the Clipper Mills Station, where they continue to support our little Community of Clipper Mills.
to the attendees of the community, that as a result of Butte County's lack of money the County needed to convey the property to someone else. A small committee was formed that day, attained the 501c3 they needed to become a non-profit organization known as Grizzly Creek Community Services (GCCS), early in 2023 all the documents had been signed, and the land was successfully conveyed. GCCS has partnered with Foothill Volunteer Department to continue to provide fire protection and emergency services to the Clipper Mills and surrounding communities.
A motion passed with an unanimous vote to change our name to Clipper Mills Fire Station. So we are now know as CLIPPER MILLS FIRE STATION (CMFS).
